Steamed Glutinous Rice aka Lor Mai Farn

Time flies and I am staring at the calendar in front of me now. Counting the weekends to CNY. I only have 3 weekends to do spring cleaning at home, do the CNY baking to fulfill some small orders from close friends and shop for CNY stuffs.Wah only 3 weekends and have to start the cleaning by this weekend.

First of all is to start clearing my fridge. Tried to clear off food items from my fridge before I stock up food items for CNY. As usual, every year I needed to cook few dishes back the in-law’s place for reunion dinner. And it will be same old dishes that I cook every year. Boringgggggnya…. thought of changing the menu this year. Hmmmm… shall plan what new dish to cook this year.

As I am planning to do spring cleaning tomorrow, tonight I cook glutinous rice that is for tonight’s dinner and for tomorrow lunch. This is also to clear off my balance of glutinous rice, chinese sausages, dried oyster which left only a handful of it, and the dried prawns and a bit of mushroom which is all left over from the previous Hokkien Bak Chang I made.

It is another one dish meal. Easy peasy and my kids can eat more than a plate of lor mai farn at home.

Ingredients A:
4 tbsp of oil
Some chopped garlic and shallots
500gm glutinous rice, soaked in water for about an hour and drained
A handful of dried prawns, soaked
1 tbsp oyster sauce
1 tsp dark soya sauce
1 tsp salt
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp chicken stock granules
1/4 cup of water

Ingredients B:
1 tbsp oyster sauce
1/2 tsp dark soya sauce
1 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp sesame oil
1/2 tsp pepper
Salt to taste
A small piece of loin pork, cut into small slices
About 7 pcs of mushroom, soaked and cut into thin slices
About 7 pcs of dried oyster, soaked and cut into small pieces
2 chinese sausages, cut into thin slices

Method :
1. Mix ingredients B together and marinade overnight.
2. Heat oil in pan. Sautee chopped garlic, shallots and dried prawns till fragrant. Add in the glutinous rice and the rest of ingredients A and stir well. Set aside.
3. Arrange the pork slices, mushroom, dried oyster and chinese sausages in a bowl. Then top up with the glutinous rice.
4. Steam on high heat for 40 minutes before serving.
