Hahaha… Dearie Suki Got Conned By Me
You know I always got problem when I want to cook something I like to eat but Dearie Suki is the opposite side. He hate those food that I love to eat. Being myself a Hokkien, Mee Suah is a must for me. I cook Mee Suah Soup during my kids birthday and my birthday, during CNY and at times when I am too lazy to cook up a storm for the kids, I will choose to have Mee Suah Soup. I hate it when I cook Mee Suah Soup and I have to cook another type of noodle just for him because he doesn’t like Mee Suah. I wonder why he hate it so much as it is such a nice noodles compared to others. He told me it is too soft and the whole thing turned soggy. Ooohhhh… I really missed the Mee Suah Soup my Ah Mah cooked for us when we were young. My Ah Mah will feed us with rice and it is just so lovely. Even now I feed my kids Mee Suah Soup with rice.

Talking about cooking Mee Suah noodles, I came across this blog… HoChiak! Delicious Asian Food. I am a silent reader to this blog and I just love to drop by this site because of all the lovely home cook food. It is just so simple and delicious and it brings back my childhood memory what my Ah Mah used to cook for me. Something really interest me when I came across this recipe named Mee Suah Kueh. Hmmm… interesting and looks pretty simple. I knew it, I must try it on Saturday. I make this on Friday night and kept it till the next Saturday morning before I cut and fried it.

I didn’t tell Dearie Suki this is actually Mee Suah Kueh and all the while he thought he is eating fried Lobak Kueh. Hahaha…. till today I also didn’t tell him it is actually makes from Mee Suah. I think by tomorrow he will taruk me upside down when he read my this post. The kids had this for their breakfast and dipped it with their favourite tomato ketchup and me and Dearie Suki had it for breakfast and tea-time. Thank GOD he didn’t realize it is not Lobak Kueh. Thank you so much for the creative recipe.
Ingredients :
2 packets mee suah , about 8 pieces
50gm to 100gm lean pork / chicken meat , minced
50gm to 100gm prawns, chopped roughly
1 whole bulb garlic, chopped finely
spring onions, chopped
2 tbsp oil
2 soup bowls of hot water
Seasoning Ingredients :
2 tsp of salt
1/4 tsp white pepper powder
Method:
1. Heat oil in wok and fry garlic till beginning to brown. Add meat and continue to stir fry till meat changed colour. Next, add prawns and stir well for 15 seconds.
2. Add water and bring to boil. Add mee suah and stir well to evenly coat with other ingredients. Sprinkle the spring onions at this stage.
3. Add more water to just cover the mee suah so that it cooks in a thick and sticky soup (not runny). Once the mee suah is evenly coated, remove onto a stainless steel plate or pan.
4. Steam it for 3 minutes. Allow to cool overnight.
5. Cut into squares, dip into beaten egg and deep fry till golden brown. Remove and place onto kitchen napkin to absorb excess oil prior to serving.

You can also get the recipe in My Kitchen’s blog or alternatively you can hop to his blog here for the full recipe. Remember there is this USD100 up for grabs at his blog. Check it out now. Wah USD100…. equivalent to writing a 10 X USD10 paid post. So I rather join and try my luck here than sitting in front of the computer at wee hours looking for opps. Hahaha…

I dont like mee suah for the same reason as your hubby - they will turn soggy and lumpy very fast. But your mee suah kueh looks really good! I bet it taste like lobak koa right?
Ya, a lot of people don’t like mee suah cos it is too soft. The mee suah kueh, I think if you add dried prawns it will be very similar to lobak kueh.

b>allthingspurple : It is better to use the thicker type of mee sua especially those from Muar. Don’t overcook the mee sua. It is supposed to be “steamed” to cook. The idea is to have the mee sua kueh showing the strands beneath the fried exterior
