Hahaha… Dearie Suki Got Conned By Me

You know I always got problem when I want to cook something I like to eat but Dearie Suki is the opposite side. He hate those food that I love to eat. Being myself a Hokkien, Mee Suah is a must for me. I cook Mee Suah Soup during my kids birthday and my birthday, during CNY and at times when I am too lazy to cook up a storm for the kids, I will choose to have Mee Suah Soup. I hate it when I cook Mee Suah Soup and I have to cook another type of noodle just for him because he doesn’t like Mee Suah. I wonder why he hate it so much as it is such a nice noodles compared to others. He told me it is too soft and the whole thing turned soggy. Ooohhhh… I really missed the Mee Suah Soup my Ah Mah cooked for us when we were young. My Ah Mah will feed us with rice and it is just so lovely. Even now I feed my kids Mee Suah Soup with rice.

Talking about cooking Mee Suah noodles, I came across this blog… HoChiak! Delicious Asian Food. I am a silent reader to this blog and I just love to drop by this site because of all the lovely home cook food. It is just so simple and delicious and it brings back my childhood memory what my Ah Mah used to cook for me. Something really interest me when I came across this recipe named Mee Suah Kueh. Hmmm… interesting and looks pretty simple. I knew it, I must try it on Saturday. I make this on Friday night and kept it till the next Saturday morning before I cut and fried it.

I didn’t tell Dearie Suki this is actually Mee Suah Kueh and all the while he thought he is eating fried Lobak Kueh. Hahaha…. till today I also didn’t tell him it is actually makes from Mee Suah. I think by tomorrow he will taruk me upside down when he read my this post. The kids had this for their breakfast and dipped it with their favourite tomato ketchup and me and Dearie Suki had it for breakfast and tea-time. Thank GOD he didn’t realize it is not Lobak Kueh. Thank you so much for the creative recipe.

Ingredients :
2 packets mee suah , about 8 pieces
50gm to 100gm lean pork / chicken meat , minced
50gm to 100gm prawns, chopped roughly
1 whole bulb garlic, chopped finely
spring onions, chopped
2 tbsp oil
2 soup bowls of hot water

Seasoning Ingredients :
2 tsp of salt
1/4 tsp white pepper powder

Method:
1. Heat oil in wok and fry garlic till beginning to brown. Add meat and continue to stir fry till meat changed colour. Next, add prawns and stir well for 15 seconds.
2. Add water and bring to boil. Add mee suah and stir well to evenly coat with other ingredients. Sprinkle the spring onions at this stage.
3. Add more water to just cover the mee suah so that it cooks in a thick and sticky soup (not runny). Once the mee suah is evenly coated, remove onto a stainless steel plate or pan.
4. Steam it for 3 minutes. Allow to cool overnight.
5. Cut into squares, dip into beaten egg and deep fry till golden brown. Remove and place onto kitchen napkin to absorb excess oil prior to serving.

Crispy Prawn Fritters

I made this Crispy Prawn Fritters for tea time last Saturday. Both me and Dearie Suki loves the crispy prawn fritters that comes with the Rojak Buah. When I was in my 2nd pregnancy, I was craving for Rojak Buah. I used to get Dearie Suki go back to Kajang on every Sunday and buy the Rojak Buah from one of the Rojak man selling at the Tmn Bukit Mewah night market on Sunday.

This Rojak Taukeh used to sell his Rojak outside the Great Wall supermarket in Kajang. From a motorbike stall and now upgraded to a van. Personally I hate buying from him cos he always boost around while I am waiting for his Rojak. While making his Rojak he will start boosting that he is the Rojak King in Kajang, his Rojak is the best, his customers even come as far as Singapore and ‘ta pau’ more than 10 packets back to Singapore and worst still he will tell me, anyone open next to him sure ‘chup lup’ cos cannot compare with his Rojak. Walaueh… I want to LOL when I heard this.

Why we like to buy from him cos we loves his crispy prawn fritters. We always add extra of the crispy fritters and a whole packet of Rojak will come out about RM8. Pretty expensive huh just for the crispy fritters.

Last Saturday I decided to give it a try to make the crispy fritters. I can’t find any recipes from the net and finally I used the batter recipe for making a Pie Tee shells from Amy Beh. The recipe stated to use 100gm flour and 1 tbsp rice flour. Followed the recipe exactly and quite happy with the results and it is really crispy. But……

I am dissapointed cos it is only crispy on the 1st day. On the 2nd day the prawn fritters became soft although I stored it in an airtight container. Sigh :( Oohhh, can someone please enlighten me what is wrong with it why I can’t get those sell at the Rojak stalls. Perhaps should I just changed the recipe the other way round, to use 100gm rice flour and 1 tbsp flour?

Crispy Prawn Fritters with Rojak Sauce as dippings.

Whether it is crispy on the 1st day and soft on the 2nd day, me and Dearie Suki finished up everything . The crispy one we dip it with the Rojak sauce and the soft one we dip it with Lingam’s chilli sauce.

I won’t give up and I am going to try my 2nd attempt this Saturday with my own version of recipe. Hopefully it works.

Cempedak Fritters

We have too much cempedak last week and I don’t quite like cempedak cos it is too sweet for me. I can’t stand the cempedak smell and makes the whole fridge have this pungent fruit smell although I close it tightly in the container. End up I make cempedak fritters and give away to my 3 neighbours on my left, right and front.

Bought a packet of the NONA banana fritter mix to make the batter. Wah, it is not so easy to fried this cempedak. Once I put it in the hot oil, the flesh got stick to the pan and got to be very careful when I turn the cempedak but anyway it turn quite nice, sweet and crunchy on the outside.

Well, my Dearie Suki love it so much cos he likes all this goreng-goreng stuff.

Hungry Ghost Festival

Today is a hot sunny Sunday morning. Little Ee-Thern woke up at 9 am while Le-Ann woke up as early as 7 am. Me too tired and sleep till Ee-Thern woke me up. Today I planned to bring the kids fo a haircut as I cannot stand Ee-Thern’s hair. So long liao. While waiting to go, the kids yelling at me and ask me to go out and see aeroplane and I was wondering why they are so excited. They saw few fighther jet on the air and I think they must be rehearsing for the coming Merdeka Parade. My Ee-Thern boy got so exicited jumping up and down ask me to have a look at it.

After they finished their milk, I get the maid to pack their stuffs and not going to take bath for them until after they cut their hair. I used to bring both to the hair salon in South City Plaza for a hair cut and OMG… per person is RM12. End up I bring them back to Kajang to a hair salon operated from house and only cost RM4 per person. Luckily both of them sit down quietly and let the aunty cut their hair. Done! We head back to Ah Mah’s house and we are the earliest. Mom, dad and sis is not back yet.

Both of them play around with Faye Yiyi and then take ther bath. Mom and dad came back at 11 am and ‘piling palang’ started to cook in the kitchen. I ask mom why cook so many foods and she said today is the Hungry Ghost Festival ( in Chinese Calendar is 14th July ) and we have prayer at Ah Mah’s house. As usual mom and dad and Aunty SH will prepare all the stuffs for prayers.

Mom make some Yam Cake back and ask me to try. Once open, oh gosh… Mom’s food presentation is real bad. I was complaining to her why can’t she cut the yam cake nicely and arrange neatly on a nice container and have some garnishing on top like chopped spring onion and red chilli rather than everything chuck into the container. Then she started to scold me…’If want to eat don’t complaint so much’. I kept quiet and eat her yam cake cos in morning didn’t take breakfast. So no choice got to eat her yam cake. Actually her yam cake is nice but only bad in presentation. I started to snap some pictures and she ask why I do that. I happily told her I wanted to show the whole world how ugly is her yam cake. Hahaha….I quickly cabut and change topic with her.

Dad wanted to make some fried wantan and Mom prepared the fish paste + minced pork + minced prawn for the filling. I was helping mom to wrap the wantan into triangular shape and I realized mom like to nag so much. Maybe old people is like this. Then here comes my KPC Le-Ann wanted to help PoPo to wrap the wantan.

This is yummy. I love it so much. Keep eating non-stop with chilli sauce.

Today is just like a big ‘makan’ feast in Ah Mah’s house. Dad cook all these for prayers. Clockwise from top left we have Fried Tanghoon ( its my late Ah Kong’s favourite), Mixed Vegetables with Prawns ( don’t know why whenver we have prayers, dad will cook this boring dish), Black Pepper Pig’s Stomach Soup with Mushroom, and Steamed Kampung Chicken.

This fish is nice. Dad said is Ikan Terubuk and its from Sarawak. I don’t whether is Uncle HH bought this or Dad. Anyway the flesh is nice but full with small bones. Dad steamed it with tauchoo and added in some chilli padi.

After all lunch, I went back early cos Le-Ann is having her Yamaha Music Kid’s concert in the evening. At the concert it is a big dissapointment for me. She ‘chicken out’ and refuse to go on the stage to perform and sing with other kids. After so many months of bringing her to the music class, all the efforts that I put in on her and this is what I get from her… “Mommy I don’t want to go MUSIC School”. Sigh. Is she too young for this? I really don’t know. Now I understand how a parent felt when your kids tell you this. Same goes to me when I am young, I told my dad I got no interest in PIANO but ‘die die’ he want me to finish up to Grade 8. Finally I did it just to fulfil his wish but deep inside of me, I got no interest for music. I hope my little Le-Ann will not be like me!

Hubby’s Dinner Bento Set

Tonight Dearie Suki will be home alone at home. Me and the kids are attending his cousin sister’s 2nd baby fullmoon dinner at Fortuna Palace in Semenyih. Dearie Suki is not going with us cos he is having another appoinment in KL. Hopefully he can join me after his appointment.

I have prepared one Sushi Bento Set for him tonight so that he can have his dinner before he goes for his appointment at 8 pm. My very first set of Bento Box purchased online. Finally I got the chance to use it.

Make some rolled sushi for him using crabsticks, egg, cucumber and some mayonaise. On the other one, I packed some endamme beans and steamed sweet corn plus some Kikkoman Sushi Sashimi Soy Sauce for dipping in a cute mini container.

The 2 tier Bento Box is neatly packed and secured with the matching Bento straps and ready to be kept into the fridge for him till dinner time.

Also fried some wantan for him and for the filling I used minced pork. I hope he enjoy his dinner tonight before he go for his appoinment in KL.

Popiah & Prawn Fritters for Tea Time

I was back from Ah Mah’s house early today cos want to put the 2 kids for a short afternoon nap. These 2 monster don’t know how they can ‘tahan’ without sleeping. No choice got to come back early cos we are going out to have dinner at night with Uncle Peter + family and Aunty Rose + hubby. I just don’t want when we are about to go out and both just starting to yawn.

Dearie Suki went out for an appointment again in Sunway this afternoon to meet up a customer and he came back with a plactic bag full with fried Popiah and Prawn Fritters and I guess it must be the one from Salak South. BINGO! Iam right.

Both of us had this for tea time and Dearie Suki told me this is actually his lunch. OMG… one thing I don’t like about him is that he always had his meals at odd hours.
